Linear park, Tower Hamlets, London
A linear park, located near Commercial Road in London runs between a series of moderate to high rise buildings. The aim was to provide a location for lunchtime passive recreation by providing a peaceful space through which office workers can walk and sit amongst attractive planting.
The scheme encourages wildlife through strong usage of British native plant species. The design needs to be sufficiently robust to withstand a degree of potential vandalism, although the space will be lit and gated at night. The park is partially divided by timber “groins”, made from railway sleepers, extending into the site irregularly from both sides and creating spaces into which the seating provision can be accommodated and through which the path can meander.
