Bingley Bypass, West Yorkshire
The A650 Bingley Bypass, threads between the between a railway and canal, including the famous Bingley five-rise locks. The 4.5km road was opened in 2004 and won the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award.
Smeeden Foreman prepared the earthwork strategy for the road allowing for the restoration of adjacent derelict land which allow very considerable cost savings to the scheme. We also designed the softworks elements of the scheme included native trees and shrubs, ornamental trees and shrubs, grasslands, wildflower mixes and marginal planting for wetlands, scheduling and assessment of the softworks’ various functions and timescales required in accordance with the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works.
